20 Trips to take in your 20’ies

We can all agree that the traditional idea of going to college, getting married and have kids is no longer the only option for your twenties. More and more people want to take advantage of this time and really enjoy life to the fullest. One thing we do a lot more nowadays is travel in our twenties. There are a few trips you just cannot miss out on especially if you are in your twenties.

A classic Europe trip

Whether this is a fun week getaway to London or Paris, or a full summer exploring the coast of Italy. A trip to Europe is just something you have to do. If you are from Europe yourself, maybe try and explore another side of the continent as there is so much to see and discover still.

Casino Royal

Pack your bags & cash and head to Monaco or Vegas. Having a weekend trip with your friends where you go all out, have fun & hopefully win a lot of money is a must in your 20ies. Be careful to not overspend and get lost in the gambling fun, but a little never hurt anyone.

Go out on a solo adventure

This next one is not so much about the destination, but all about the journey. Going on a solo trip is one of the most lifechanging things you can do for yourself. Whether this is just a short weekend trip or a 6 month long backpacking adventure any solo trip is worth going on.

Go watch a sporting event abroad

Even if you aren’t a die hard sports fan, going to see a game in the World Cup, Super Bowl or Olympics is just such a cool experience. Depending on where they are being held, it can definitely be a bit more of an expensive trip, but so worth it!

Backpacking & HOSTEL HOPPING

There is no age limit on when you should go backpacking, but most people enjoy more comfort the older they get. So if you are still in your early twenties, and have a lower budget, you should go on a backpacking trip and do the hostel hopping. There are many great destinations for it, some of my favourite: South East Asia, Central Europe and Mexico

A cross country road trip

Set out to explore your own country by car. Sometimes we forget how beautiful our own home is and we crave foreign experiences. But if you allow yourself to be surprised by the beauty of it. Or rent a car in a foreign country to explore more in depth the hidden gems of the area.

Travel with your siblings!

One of my favourite trips in my twenties so far has been traveling with my sister to Greece. We left our parents behind and enjoyed a beautiful week in the sunshine, relaxing by the pool. I loved this trip because I felt like our bond got so much stronger throughout the trip. Definitely worth repeating.

EXPLORE Thailand

If there is one country you HAVE to visit before turning 30 it is Thailand. Home to some of the best beaches, parties, hostels it is a backpackers paradise. Plus who doesn’t love living 5 minutes from the beach for a couple dollars a night.

Music Festival

Another must do in your twenties is to go to a music festival. Coming from Belgium, I’m biased in saying that we have some of the best festivals in the world such as Tomorrowland, but I also enjoy the smaller festivals. However, I think it would be an even crazier experience to travel to a foreign country and enjoy a music festival there.

Surfing Trip

If you love vacationing on the beach, you will have to try surfing. You will feel so cool once you are able to take your first wave standing up. Some great places for this are: Puerto Escondido in Mexico, Huanchaco in Peru, Bali in Indonesia, California in the USA…

Inca Trail in Peru

One of the most beautiful treks to do in your twenties is to hike up the Inca Trail in Peru. Of course you could just take the train up, but it is such an amazing experience to spend a couple of days hiking the area and then ending up with such breathtaking views at Machu Picchu. I always recommend to do this trail with a company that knows the area.

South Africa (volunteer/safari)

If you have the opportunity to go on a Safari, you HAVE TO do it. Not only did it feel like a life changing experience seeing the animals roam freely in the wild, but also just being able to see how they interact in nature was amazing. If you want to have a bit of a cheaper experience, try and volunteer at one of the animal rehabilitation centers in Africa.

National Parks summer - USA or CA

Many countries have national parks that are worth a visit, but if you have to pick just one it should be USA or Canada. These countries are quite literally “known for” their national parks. So buy that yearly pass & start exploring all the beautiful places around the area.

Group trip

If you are in your twenties and your friends don’t really fancy traveling, try out a group tour. This way you get to travel “solo” without being solo really. You have the support of the organization behind you & get to see the best places whilst traveling around a country.

Ancient Egypt + Jordan

If you are a bit of a history nerd like me, you will love exploring these countries which have a super rich history like Egypt and Jordan. Since they are conveniently located near each other I recommend combining both of them into a single trip. If you aren’t super comfortable doing this solo, combine it with the trip idea above and go on a group tour.

Camper van in Aussie or NZ

Campervan travel is definitely the new ‘20ies hype. People are keen to explore more hidden gems and find those off the beaten path places. There really is no better way to do this than to rent (or convert) a campervan and set out on an adventure. The best place to do this is for sure Australia & New Zealand.

Travel with a Grandparent

My trip to Tanzania with my grandma will be one I’ll never forget. It was her dream to go on that trip and being able to take here is one of my favourite memories. I feel like we often forget about family travel once we pass our twenties, but if you are able to do this still, you should.

Party Holiday in Ibiza

Now life doesn’t always have to be serieus. You can also go on a little vacay and enjoy it to the fullest by partying until the early mornings. Ibiza is a classic place to do this, but there are so many other fun party destinations out there.

Sailing trip Greece or Croatia

If you love that blue water, gorgeous sunsets and good food, a sailing trip is perfect for you. Whether you are island hopping through Greece or sailing past the coast of Croatia, both are amazing and super fun to do as a group tour as well.

Discover a more unknown country

Lastly on this list is to explore a more unknown country. Whether it is by throwing a dart on the map, or booking a surprise trip through an organization it can be so much fun to go to a place you never thought of going. Bonus points if other people also have never heard of the place you are going.
