10 Italian Cities to Visit & Put on Your Bucket List

If you are dreaming of the perfect experience in Europe, you have to add Italy to your bucket list. Time and time again, Italy did not disappoint in its experiences. From all the way up north to down south, Italy has so much to offer. This is a list of 10 cities in Italy that you have to put on your bucket list when traveling to Italy.

Florence

Florence, or Firenze like the locals call it, was the birthplace of the Renaissance. The whole city center is deemed to be a cultural heritage. Florence is home to a lot of history, art, a beautiful river side and so much more to discover... It is also a very romantic city with a lot of beautiful hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Bologna

Bologna is another city in Northern Italy. Similar to Florence, there is a lot of culture and history. However, the main reason people visit Bologna is for its food. Bologna is home to some of the best Italian food & wine. Other than the food, Bologna also has some beautiful churches which are worth visiting.

Assisi

The next place to add to your bucket list, is this little hill town in the Umbria region of Italy called Assisi. This town was the birth place of St Francis, a catholic saint. Assisi is mainly known for its catholic background. The town is absolutely beautiful and also worth visiting if you aren't religious.

Positano

Down south in Italy you can find the Amalfi Coast. This is a beautiful region, and one of its most famous towns in Positano. This is a famous post card town from Italy. Although it will get crowded in Summer, Positano is a perfect shoulder season destination. It still has nice temperatures, but avoids crowds a bit. This is the perfect romantic getaway destination.

Bari

Bari is located in southern Italy, on the Adriatic Sea. Until not so long ago this was just another port town. But recently a new vibrant and energy has revived the city and made it a city worth visiting. Beat the crowds and head to Bari as soon as possible before the general public hears about this destination. It has everything you can expect from a small Italian port town.

Como

Most people have heard about this next destination, Como. This is a city right by the famous Lake Como. It is one of northern Italy's most beautiful destinations. You can enjoy this place as a family, go on a romantic getaway or just hang out with friends. This place is a very versatile destination and everyone can enjoy it.

Milan

Up next is Italy's capital of fashion and luxury. However, Milan has a lot more to offer than its luxury shops. Milan is also the financial capital of Italy, as well as home to some of Italy's most famous football and basketball teams. In Milan you can also enjoy some of the world most famous painters art. Examples are Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper and Sandro Botticelli’s ‘Madonna of the Book’.

Naples

The city of Naples is Italy's 3rd biggest town. Word has it that pizza was invented in this town, which is why you have to go and try out a local Italian pizza. Other than the food, Naples has a lot of beautiful nature. A must visit is the still active volcano Vesuvius, as well as the ancient town of Pompeii which was destroyed by this volcano.

Rome

Rome cannot be missed in this top ten. Although there is a lot of tourism and it is a very well known town, it is beautiful. This historic city has so much to offer. From one of the world wonders; the Colosseum, to the Forum Romano, to the Trevi Fountain... This city has so much to offer and needs to be on your list when visiting Italy.

Cinque Terre

Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are 5 fishing towns. They are connected by a hiking trail which offers you beautiful views over the Mediterranean. Eat some good food, relax by the beach and enjoy the stunning sunsets. If you want you can hike from town to town or you can just hop on a train between the towns and enjoy it this way.
